What is Sleep Latency?

Understanding Sleep Latency

Sleep latency is a measure of the time required to initially fall asleep once you’re in bed. For adults, 15 to 20 minutes is a typical amount of time for sleep onset. Keep in mind, falling asleep is a biological process that starts well before you go to bed. Elevated Sleep Latency times can indicate the need to try alternate going to bed behaviors and/or a return to the behaviors that have worked well in the past.
