Understanding the Need for Regular Water Refills in Our Systems. The Role of Diffusion and Vapor Pressure

Understanding the Need for Regular Water Refills in Our Systems.

One of the most common questions we get is about why you need to refill your system periodically. While our products are designed to be closed systems, they still need regular water replenishment. Let's take a closer look at why that is.

The Role of Diffusion and Vapor Pressure

Even though our systems are closed, they aren’t completely sealed. This means water won't splash out, but some microscopic amounts of water vapor can still escape through the tubing.

Water molecules are always in motion. When they’re heated or moving, they can wiggle into tiny spaces between the tubing – a process known as diffusion. Once they're inside the tubing, these molecules exert vapor pressure. If this pressure is higher than the surrounding air's water vapor pressure, those molecules can escape into the air.

A few factors influence how quickly this happens:

  • Temperature of the water: Higher temperatures mean more energy for the water molecules, which increases diffusion and the need to refill.
  • Environment: Changes in temperature and humidity around the system can also affect how quickly water vapor escapes.

So, while it might feel like a hassle to refill your system every few weeks, it’s a normal part of how water reacts with its environment. Keeping your system topped off ensures you continue to enjoy the best performance. Thanks for your understanding!
