Suggested Initial Temperatures for Chilipad

When determining your optimal sleep temperature, various factors should be considered, such as your geographical location, the season, and the ambient temperature. Additionally, individual body chemistry plays a crucial role in finding the ideal temperature that promotes quality sleep.

Everyone has a unique ideal sleep temperature,  which greatly influences their ability to achieve deep, restful sleep on a regular basis.

For those using a Chilipad Dock Pro, it's important to note that it holds a larger volume of water, so the Chilipad Dock Pro may feel cooler compared to the Chilipad Cube or OOLER. Users of the Chilipad Dock Pro might benefit from setting their temperature a bit higher, as the larger cooling surface combined with the enhanced cooling features of the Dock Pro can create a more intense cooling sensation.

Keep in mind that finding your ideal temperature may take 2-3 weeks, but here are some recommendations based on the Dock Pro to help you get started.

 

Using the Sleepme app to adjust bed temperature

 

Chilipad Cube & OOLER 

Recommended temps for your first night.

  • If you sleep cold, try a temperature between 78-84˚F degrees.
  • If you are unsure or sleep comfortably, try a temperature between 70-78˚F degrees.
  • If you know you’re a hot sleeper, try a temperature between 60-70˚F degrees.

For OOLER users, You can also create a custom sleep schedule using the OOLER app. The following has been helpful for many sleepers: 

  • Identify the current ambient temperature of your bedroom environment.
  • Determine if you want to get in a cool bed or a warm bed. Create a schedule that starts 20 minutes before getting into bed that will change the temperature of your bed above or below the current ambient temperature by 3-5˚F (1-3˚C). The temperature change will help signal to your brain that it’s time to fall asleep.
  • Four hours before your wake-up time, add a temperature change event that sets the temperature of your pad back to your ambient room temperature.

Finally, use the OOLER Warm Awake feature to gently wake you up.

 

Chilipad Dock Pro

Recommended temps for your first night.

  • If you sleep cold, we recommend 78-82˚F degrees.
  • If you sleep hot, we recommend 72-76˚F degrees.

You can also create a custom sleep program (schedule) using the Sleepme app. When you create the first program, the program will default to the following:

Adjust this temperature to what you like. Everyone is different. Some prefer entering a warm and cozy bed and some prefer entering a cool, refreshing bed. Pro Tip: Choose a temperature that is different than ambient temperature. When you get into bed and your body senses a temperature change; that will send a signal to your brain that “I’m in bed and it’s time to sleep.”

Deep Sleep Zone

We recommend decreasing the temperature a few degrees about 30 minutes after falling asleep to help your core body temperature drop. You’ll want this window of time to be the coldest temperature to help promote more Deep Sleep. Deep Sleep is critical for cell and tissue repair, filing long-term memories, removing toxins from the brain, and more.

REM Sleep Zone

We suggest increasing the temperature by 3-5 degrees F halfway through your sleep/ As the night progresses, REM sleep periods increase in length while Deep Sleep decreases. REM sleep helps reduce anxiety and works to organize thoughts and information gained throughout the day. This is also usually when your most vivid, memorable dreams occur.

Defaults to 4 hours after Bedtime Defaults to 77˚F

 

Off

Warm Awake is also set to Off.

Additional Information

The Chilipad can be set to temperatures ranging from 55°F to 115°F, but several factors impact their performance. Key considerations include room temperature, humidity, unit placement, and maintenance of the pad and control unit. Additionally, body heat can influence the water temperature in the system. 

When a person lies on the cooled pad, their body heat warms the circulating water, prompting the system to dissipate that heat through vents. Ideally, there should be no more than a 5°F difference between the user's set temperature and the water temperature. If this range isn’t maintained, check the following factors:

Room Temperature
The Chilipad can reach 55°F in rooms at 74°F or cooler. If the room is warmer, it may be why the system isn’t cooling properly. Lowering the room temperature may help.

Humidity Level
For proper functioning, humidity should be 55% or lower. While this can be hard to measure, our technical support can assist with readings specific to the OOLER. If you think humidity is an issue, send a log sheet to technical support for an air humidity reading.

Unit Placement
Adequate space around the control units is essential for ventilation. Insufficient airflow can create warm air pockets, reducing effectiveness. Maintain at least 18 inches of clearance on all sides. If that's not possible, maximize space and consider using a fan for better airflow.

Once you’ve set a comfortable temperature, fine-tune it as needed. Here are tips for finding your ideal Chilipad setting:

  1. Gradually adjust until you find a comfortable level.
  2. Be aware that preferred temperatures may change with the seasons.
  3. For Dock Pro users, experiment with sleep programs to find what suits you best; adjust settings if you wake up too cold.
  4. Keep in mind that your core body temperature changes throughout the night, so make adjustments as necessary.
  5. Test it! With bedding on the bed, choose a temperature and lie on the pad for 3 to 5 minutes to gauge comfort.

With a bit of trial and error, you’ll find the perfect temperature setting for your Chilipad system, helping you wake up refreshed and ready for the day!
